After a parole violation blocked Anthony Dickerson from donating a kidney to his 2-year-old son AJ, the story of the family’s plight went viral. The Atlanta-Journal-Constitution reported that the little boy was born without kidneys and needed hemodialysis treatments three times a week. AJ’s mother, Carmellia Burgess, did not have a car. So when Tyler Perry got wind of the situation, he was moved to help. According to Burgess’ Facebook post, Perry gifted her with one.
The grateful mom posted a photo of the new car on Tuesday with an emotional message to Perry.
“OMGG.. IM SO OVERJOYED.. I WAS IN TEARS.. THANK YOU TYLER PERRY (MADEA) FOR BLESSING/BUYING MY KIDS && I A NEW CAR.. WE ARE FOREVER GRATEFUL.. I LOVE YOU I LOVE I LOVE YOU #BLESSED!! #KIDNEY4AJ” she wrote.

The Huffington Post confirmed via a source close to the situation that Perry did indeed buy the car for the family. In addition to his dialysis treatments, AJ has endured multiple surgeries, pneumonia, and blood transfusions while on the waiting list for a kidney. The new vehicle would certainly make their lives easier in the coming days.
The good news didn’t stop there, though. The same day, Burgess got a call from A.J.’s doctors notifying her that there was a donor kidney available which was a match for her little boy. She took AJ to Emory University Hospital where the transplant was performed on Wednesday morning at 7:30 am. Perry took to his Facebook page and asked his followers to pray for AJ.

Fox 5 Atlanta reported that Muwali Davis, the family’s attorney, offered a statement on their behalf.
“Today a family and community’s prayers have been answered,” Davis said. “Baby AJ had a successful kidney transplant. He is currently in recovery. His parents and family are overwhelmed with gratitude.”
