BURBANK, CALIFORNIA — For the past week, Burbank police have been looking for a woman suspected of stealing a distracted, elderly woman’s purse while shopping at Ralph’s.
As you’ll see from the following video, an 82-year-old victim was moving through the store in an electric scooter, on the morning of September 12.
While the elderly woman slowly crept along the aisle, another woman trailed close behind — apparently waiting until the right time to snatch the elderly woman’s belongings.
Her purse was seemingly on the floor board of the mobile vehicle.
The moment this woman used her strength to stand up and grab an item from a shelf, the suspect swiped her purse and hurried off.
Here’s video footage of the incident below.
According to ABC 7 News, the woman is believed to have fled the scene in a white four-door Lexus GS sedan with chrome rims. Allegedly, the car was also being driven by an accomplice.
Nevertheless, NBC Los Angeles reports that the victim’s purse was later found dumped near Buena Vista and Vanowen streets. The 82-year-old’s credit cards, ID, money, and other items were missing.
The source mentions that the suspect had spent approximately $2,500 at Target and Lowe’s stores, as states the source.
DESCRIPTION AND CHARGES
As reports the source, police described the suspect “20-30 years old, about 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 110-130 pounds, with brown hair in a ponytail.”
Because of the victim’s age, the suspect may also face elder abuse charges, according to the source.
Burbank Police Department Sergeant Derek Green states, “And since the purse was in such close proximity to her — it was only the scooter but it was within arms’ reach — we could look at a grand theft person, which is also a felony.”
