Lashawnda Renee Macon’s marriage seemed relatively normal but in a matter of minutes, her entire life changed. Now, she’s facing 25 years behind bars. According to the Log Cabin Democrat, the 31-year-old woman is said to have accidentally murdered her husband after learning of his infidelity. Their life-changing argument all started with a series of text messages.
It has been reported that the couple began fighting on the morning of January 4, 2016. Lashawnda reportedly discovered “inappropriate messages and photos between [Glen] and another woman,” according to court documents. At the time, Glen allegedly “had been drinking alcohol and was drunk.” As a result of the heated argument, Lashawnda left home around 3:00 a.m. and went to her mother’s home. When her mother went to work around 5:00 a.m., she returned home. At that time, they began arguing again. This time, the situations spiraled out of control. Lashawnda claims Glen physically attacked her. When she “had gone into the bathroom with her phone and was trying to contact police,” Glen “kicked the door open and took away her phone.”
After the argument, Glen took off walking down the street. Lashawnda hopped into her BMW SUV and drove down the street behind him demanding that he give the phone back. He insisted the phone was still in their home. When she thought he was lying, she reportedly shot him in the left ribcage.
During the interrogation, Lashawnda was asked if she’d shot Glen more than one. She was also asked if she’d, instead, fired multiple shots and missed. The affidavit detailed her recount of the deadly incident.
“Lashawnda said that she had only fired the pistol once and had hit Fredd where she was aiming,” the affidavit reads. “Lashawnda said Fredd fell down to the side of the road and was saying that he loved her and was sorry. Lashawnda then spoke to Fredd saying that she had told him she would ‘blow [his] head off’ if he ever physically assaulted her. Lashawnda said she told Fredd: ‘Get in the damn car!’ She further said: ‘I will kill you AND take you to the hospital.”
The Trial and Verdict:
Leading up to the trial, Circuit Judge Charles “Ed” Clawson Jr. indicated that he wanted to further review the case. Back in January of 2016, Lashawnda was released on from jail on a$100,000 bond and was allowed to remain free until the trial.
Initially, Lashawnda Macon was charged with first-degree battery but the charges were upgraded to murder after Glen died of the injuries he sustained from the shooting. Now, Lashawnda has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the death of her husband, Glen “Fredd” Macon Jr. The decision to enter a guilty plea was reportedly part of a plea deal that was negotiated. As a result of the guilty plea, she will spend the next 25 years behind bars in the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
