Floyd Mayweather Jr Accepts Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Challenge — 51-0 Or 50-1?

Posted On : 10/15/2018

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA — Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr. is the reigning champ. But now, Khabib Nurmagomedov wants the same shot Conor McGregor got.

Like all champions, Mayweather is constantly targeted and challenged by those who believe they can strip him of the undefeated title. The latest challenge is an enticing one for Floyd, surely.

NOTE: According to ESPN, Mayweather was promised $100 million for his fight against McGregor (who was also promised $30 million).

Now, here’s Nurmagomedov — a man who recently forced Conor to tap out — demanding to try his hand at a “UFC vs. boxing” competition.

Khabib says “in the jungle, there is only one king,” as reports Daily Mail. This challenge came while standing alongside Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe.

Seemingly without hesitation, Mayweather accepted Khabib’s proposal. Via his Instagram, Floyd posted a photo of Nurmagomedov along with the caption:

Also within his announcement, the boxer tagged various television networks and the MGM Grand in order to get the payday ready.

According to Daily Mail, Mayweather might be contributing his caption to the McGregor-Khabib incident, which happened after Conor tapped out. The source mentions as follows.

“Perhaps his wish to make Las Vegas great again was in reference to the ugly brawl between Khabib and Conor McGregor’s teams following the Russian’s victory over the ‘Notorious’ at UFC 229. The aftermath of the biggest event in UFC history has been widely condemned with both Khabib and McGregor awaiting further punishment for the melee between both the Irish and Dagestani teams.”

While this is stacking up to be a great battle between two powerhouse athletes, it’s a legit question to ask: is this really worth Mayweather’s perfect record.

He retired. Then, he came out of retirement to shut Conor McGregor’s mouth — and did it, rendering his record 50-0.

Now, here’s the next man. It’s never going to stop. There will always be someone else “bigger and badder” stepping up to the plate for their shot at glory.

At this point, Mayweather has nothing more to prove and by accepting this fight — while it’s good entertainment and money potential…and while Mayweather is obvious king of the ring — what if Khabib Nurmagomedov catches Floyd slipping the same way he caught Conor?

And although this writer is excited about the match — and may be placing money on Mayweather, since he already accepted — it seems like a fight that’s completely unnecessary.

The risk isn’t absolute…but it is there.

All in all, what are your thoughts about this developing fight? Do you think Mayweather will maintain his perfect record? If you have any comments, feel free to share them via our Facebook page.
