With the evolution of the Internet, many people have gained the courage to make offensive statements they normally wouldn’t even think of saying to someone, in person. Apparently, that’s what one woman did when she came for Atlanta news anchor Sharon Reed. But, it’s probably safe to say she didn’t expect the type of clap back she received. Not only did Reed respond but she did so live on air and her response was epic.
Dropping the ‘N’ Bomb:
On Tuesday night, more than a few people weren’t very thrilled about the Atlanta news headlines. For those who missed the big celebration, Keisha Lance Bottoms – an African-American woman – actually made national headlines when she won the Atlanta mayoral election. According to The Root, a woman – identified as “Kathy Rae” – accused the news anchor of race-baiting and insisting white people couldn’t openly discuss racially related topics. But despite calling Reed racist, the woman was the one who went completely left with her statement by calling Reed a n*****. Then to make matters worse, she actually misspelled the offensive word, not including the number of asterisks needed to actually spell the word.
“You need to be fired for the race-baiting comment you made tonight,” wrote Kathy. “It’s o.k. for blacks to discuss certain subjects but not whites. really??? you are what I call a n—r not a black person. You are a racist n—r. you are what’s wrong with the world.”
Not only did Reed address the situation she called Kathy out with a gut-punching response – on air.

The Clap Back Is Real:
After displaying and reading Kathy’s statement on-air, Reed went nuclear on her. “I’m going to hold it, because I think there’s some confusion behind the scenes,” Reed responded, before offering an explanation about her original statement. She made it clear that she never said white people couldn’t discuss racial issues. “I would say to Kathy, a couple of things. No. 1: You mischaracterize what I said. I didn’t say that white people couldn’t talk about race. Quite the contrary. We think that race is an authentic discussion to have,” Reed continued. “It’s one we’re having tonight because it’s one that many of you are talking about at home. And it’s one that has clearly entered the Atlanta mayor’s race. So I won’t mischaracterize your view either, Kathy Rae,” she continued. “I get it. On Dec. 5, 2017, you think it’s OK to call this journalist a n—–. I don’t. But I could clap back and say a few things to you. But instead, I’ll let your words, Kathy Rae, speak for themselves. And that’ll be the last word.”
Social media users everywhere are applauding Sharon Reed for refusing to take the offensive trash Kathy Rae spewed. Maybe next time she’ll think twice before speaking.
