Woman Agrees To Pay For Wrong Lottery Ticket, Then Wins $5 Million

The Huffington Post reports a New Jersey woman accidentally received the wrong lottery ticket from a cashier. It wasn’t the one she asked for; however, she decided to buy it anyway. It turned out the be the best decision of her life.

Oksana Zaharov, 46, was reportedly shopping in Manhattan when she asked a store clerk for a $1 New York Lottery scratch-off ticket. Instead, the woman was handed a $10 Set For Life ticket.

Zaharov instantly noticed the mistake, especially given the price.

However, the crazy part is she didn’t scratch the ticket for a while. The woman states as follows.

“When the clerk handed me the wrong ticket I felt bad, so I decided to just go ahead and buy it. I actually used the ticket as a bookmark for a couple weeks before I decided to scratch it.”

Then, POW! Zaharov won $5 million and chose an annuity option. Her funds will be distributed over 20 years, approximately $172,000 per year after taxes.

“I never win anything. I was sure the ticket was fake. It wasn’t until I brought it into the office that I knew it was for real.”

With her newfound winnings in mind, she plans to take her family on a Bahamas vacation and as well as fund her children’s college education.

Hopefully, some of this lady’s luck will rub off on us for 2018. It’s going to be a great year, right?
