Did you catch Oprah Winfrey on the Golden Globes last night? If you didn’t, you missed a monumental moment in entertainment. Oprah turned quite a few heads with her impeccable speech but for more reasons than you’d think. The billionaire talk show host spoke so eloquently and although the touchstone of her speech centered around the #MeToo movement, many are wondering if she’d consider a run for the presidency. When Oprah spoke, she had the attention of everyone who in the room. But will she really make a run for the Oval? Well, according to CNN, that is now a serious possibility as she is “actively thinking” about running for president.
It has been reported that sources close to Oprah claim she’s giving serious thought to running for president in 2020. Following the Golden Globe Awards speech, Oprah sparked a media firestorm and set Twitter ablaze. It definitely didn’t take long for the speculation to begin. Shortly after the questions and tweets began circulating, CNN reported about inside sources revealing Oprah’s perspective of taking on politics.
The two friends, who requested anonymity in order to speak freely, talked in the wake of Winfrey’s extraordinary speech at the Golden Globes Sunday night, which spurred chatter about a 2020 run. Some of Winfrey’s confidants have been privately urging her to run, the sources said. One of the sources said these conversations date back several months. The person emphasized that Winfrey has not made up her mind about running.
In addition to the inside sources, Oprah’s longtime partner Stedman Graham has also spoken about the political possibilities. When the Los Angeles Times asked Graham if he believes Oprah would run for president, he offered a surprising opinion. “It’s up to the people,” Graham told the publication. “She would absolutely do it.”
