A photographer who refers to himself as theSunk, was taking photos at Howard University’s homecoming. While snapping pictures of beautiful women, theSunk noticed one woman who immediately caught his eye. He approached her as she was partying with her friends as he asked to take her photo. The woman had no idea that he was about to change her life.

Here’s What Happened:

Anok Yai,  a 19-year-old sophomore at Plymouth State University, was hanging out at Howard University’s homecoming when a photographer, theSunk, approached her to take her photo. He told her he was taking photos of people with nice outfits and that there was a chance the photos would go viral. Anok posed and agreed as she really didn’t think it was a big deal. At the most, she thought that she would gain new followers on Instagram. However, the day after homecoming, her phone was constantly ringing with new opportunities.

My phone just started vibrating rapidly for a long, long time, Yai said to Boston Globe, remembering the moment she realized her photo was going viral. At first, I honestly thought someone made a meme of me or something.

Saw her right at the end of Yardfest. Stunning @anokyai #huhc #huhomecoming #theyard #fro #curlyhair #darkskin #sudanese

After Anok’s photo went viral, the biochemistry major received tons of attention with many social media followers retweeting and sharing her photo. Yai shared with Boston Globe that the amount of attention surprised her as she didn’t see the beauty in the photo. As it turned out, Yai did receive new followers but she also received calls from modeling agencies as they approached her to model. On Twitter and Instagram, new followers began pouring in and commenting on the photo, begging modeling agencies to take her on as a client. Surprisingly, she always dreamed of modeling but she didn’t think it would happen.

At first, I questioned what everyone was seeing because I didn’t really see it,  Anok said. Honestly, I think that people get so used to seeing themselves that people don’t see their own beauty because they see it everyday.

Anok recently announced on Instagram that she is signed with a modeling agency. Anok was not the only person theSUNK approached, but as far as we know, she was the only one who landed a modeling contract as a result of his work.

Excited to announce that I am now signed with Next Models. Thank you to everyone that’s supported me along the way; hope you follow me on this journey.
