[Video] Ocean Disappears Near Bahamas Due To Hurricane Irma

In a show of might, Hurricane Irma proves to be a true monster! Where did the ocean go?? Bahamian waters totally disappear.

LONG ISLAND, BAHAMAS — Have you ever seen anything like this?

Apparently, Hurricane Irma is a bit TOO powerful. As the storm system passed through the Caribbeans, it temporarily sucked the ocean away from beaches in Florida and the Bahamas in recent days.

HURRICANE IRMA IS UNBELIEVABLE

Here’s proof from Twitter user @Piznack. On Saturday, he tweeted as follows.

“Y’all my family in the Bahamas said Irma sucked up all the water. There’s literally no water. The beach and ocean are gone.”

According to deputy weather editor Angela Fritz of Washington Post, this phenomenon is real and may occur during “extremely powerful hurricanes” like Irma.

Fritz says the storm is so powerful that it can “essentially change the shape of the ocean for a time.” She elaborates as follows.

“Basically, Hurricane Irma is so strong and its pressure is so low, it’s sucking water from its surroundings into the core of the storm.”

Fritz says the center of Irma was so strong in the Caribbeans that the water was drawn upward. She mentions that low pressure acts as a “sucking mechanism,” taking in water, air, and whatever else.

As the storm draws water toward the center, it gets pulled away from the surroundings,” mentions Fritz.

Wayne Neely, forecaster with the Bahamas’ Department of Meteorology, warned Long Island residents to be careful. Just as the water receded, it was bound to return.

“Care must be taken in this case because the water often returns with even greater fury.”

And, that’s exactly what happened.

On Friday, the Bahamian waters returned with “fury.”

However, after some time, the waters calmed — as can be seen in the photo below.
