A mom from the Bronx is in disbelief after her 4-year old daughter, Serenity, tested positive for crack cocaine.
She Could Have Died
On Friday, mom, Sabrina Straker, was highly concerned after her daughter came home from Lil Inventors Child Care.
Her four-year-old baby girl Serenity, is normally a big bundle full of energy – but on this day she was acting especially hyper. When she looked in her hand she noticed she was clutching white capsules.
When Sabrina asked her child what they were, Serenity allegedly told her another kid in the daycare gave her his “teeth.” But her motherly instincts kicked in and when she looked at the capsules, she knew something was wrong.
She immediately went to her local precinct with the capsules. After running some tests, the narcotics team confirmed the capsules were crack cocaine.
Panicked, Sabrina rushed Serenity to the hospital, where she tested positive for the drug. It turns out the little girl put one of the capsules in her mouth, but thankfully, she spat it out.
“She could have died if she ingested this,” Straker told PIX News. “I was furious.”
She Wants The Daycare Closed
Lil Inventors Child Care state on their website: “It is our mission to provide care for young children while immersing them in a fun learning environment.”
Director Yvette Joseph says the unfortunate incident only happened because someone threw the capsules over the fence. “We checked our center thoroughly and all of the children are safe,” Joseph said.
But the daycare is now under investigation by police for endangering the welfare of a child. Meanwhile, Sabrina is demanding that the daycare be closed, claiming that the company failed to protect her child.
“No one was watching the children,” she said. “There are 15 kids in the room with two teachers and two aides. Where were they when this was going on?”
