Would we ever see Sports Illustrated laced with beautiful Black women? Probably not. So, why wait on them? These ladies have done their own photoshoot, and it’s flawless.
COSTA RICA — Just days ago, women from Florida A&M University’s Spring 2007 Beta Alpha line of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. took a three-day trip to exotic country to make their presence known.
According to Yahoo! Style, 56 women between the ages of 29 to 35 celebrated the line’s 10-year anniversary, their induction into the Delta Sigma Theta sorority.
The source quotes LaToya Owens, a member of the aforementioned chapter, as follows.
“Our sorority is all about black excellence. We want to serve as an example and [show] appreciation of black women. Our commitment is to scholarship and service, and this was to honor the sisterhood…Being in a sisterhood means having a support system and someone always there to count on…Black women are often overlooked in beauty. This was our way to shine a light on all types of black beauty.”
The source doesn’t mention whether the photoshoot was intended. However, while there, they decided to pose for a beach shoot with hashtags #MelaninIllustrated, #TITEtakescostarica, and #TITEturns10 and post them to Instagram.
And, of course — as if there’d be any other name more fitting — the collection is named “Melanin Illustrated.”
And in only the way Black beauty can, the women showcased “all the beautiful shades, shapes, and sizes” of Black women, as reports the source. Blavity notes that this is, “Something we don’t see enough of in mainstream media.”
And they’re absolutely right?
The ladies of Delta Sigma Theta had a great time and enjoyed being reunited. Nzinga Smith mentions as follows.
“I’m so grateful to stand amongst these BEAUTIFUL STRONG BLACK WOMEN and call them my LINESISTERS! 10 Years strong and we are still TITE! I had such an AMAZING time with these ladies the last few days and I wouldn’t trade it for the world!”
This beauty right HERE though!
Does it get any better?
All in all, we’d love to know your thoughts about this Melanin Illustrated photo shoot. If you have any comments, feel free to share them via our Facebook page.
