Herbert Oye came to the United States as a Nigerian immigrant. He had a keen interest in the medical profession, and was fascinated with heart surgery. He received his medical degree from Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and has now been practicing vascular surgery for more than 20 years.

Doctor Oye, who splits his time practicing between the US and Nigeria, has raised four children – a boy and three girls. All have followed in his footsteps and are accomplished doctors.

His daughter, Melissa Oye, recently shared a family photo of her siblings with their doctor’s garments on and her own graduation day.

The young lady also shared her father’s story of struggle and success, which has since gone viral.

Upon moving to the United States, he attended medical school and has worked tirelessly to build his own Vascular Surgery practice. He has since opened a hospital back in Nigeria and splits his time between the United States and Nigeria. I have three siblings and we are all currently in the medical field as a second, third, and fourth year medical student and a first year Internal Medicine Resident.- Melissa Oye. Family goals! Kudos to dad for setting the example and paving the way. #blackexcellence #becauseofthemwecan.”
