In case you haven’t heard by now, actress, Jada Pinkett-Smith, along with her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, and daughter, Willow Smith, have launched their Facebook Watch web series, “Red Table Talk,” and so far it’s been very interesting. On the show, we’ve witnessed Jada and her husband, Will Smith’s ex-wife, Sheree Fletcher, tell all about the past drama and straight cuss sessions they had back in the day. We’ve also seen the level of transparency that Jada, her mother, and 17 year old daughter display when discussing their flaws, regrets, and heartaches on the show. For their 2nd episode, which released Monday (5/14/2018), Jada was unfortunately hit with two heartbreaking revelations that she did not expect and they were both caught live on camera. *Scroll don for emotional video*
Jada Grieves Friend’s Passing
Minutes before they began filming for Monday ep’ of “Red Table Talk,” Jada was preparing in the nearby room of their home (where the show is also filmed), when she received some heartbreaking news about her good friend, Che. The phone rang and suddenly Jada’s mood shifted to sorrow, as she broke down following the news the person on the other end had just given her -that Che had just passed away, after her long battle with brain cancer.
Jada’s mother was right there to console her and Jada revealed that Che was her long time hairdresser for many years, who ultimately became her close friend.
Jada Admits Being Angry With God Over Tupac’s Death
Jada also discussed her extreme hurt and anger after losing her childhood best friend/rapper, Tupac. Jada revealed that when she received the call that Tupac had died six days after being shot in 1996, her then new husband, Will Smith, had to literally “catch” her, because her “knees buckled” instantly and she fell out. The “Girls Trip” star also admitted that she was angry with God and with ‘Pac afterwards, because she felt like Tupac “left” her, but he’d always promised to be there for her.
(Video) Willow Smith Makes Heartbreaking Admission To Jada
During the show’s discussion about “loss,” Jada and Will’s daughter hit her mama and grandmama with a very shocking blow of her own. She boldly admitted that she was extremely depressed years ago and was literally cutting her wrists as a result. “What?!! When were you cutting yourself? I didn’t see that part. Cutting yourself where?,” was Jada’s initial reaction to Willow’s confession. Here’s what Willow had to say about that:
“It was after that whole ‘Whip My Hair’ thing [in 2010] and I had just stopped doing singing lessons and I was kind of just in this gray area of, ‘Who am I? Do I have a purpose? Is there anything I can do besides this?’ After the tour and the promotion and all of that, they wanted me to finish my album, and I was like, ‘No. I’m not gonna do that. And after all of that kinda settled down and it was like a kind of lull, I was just listening to a lot of dark music. It was just so crazy and I was plunged into this black hole, and I was cutting myself. … I was experiencing so much emotional pain. But my physical circumstances weren’t reflecting that. [Cutting yourself] makes it feel real instead of like a ghost, like, in your mind.”
This week around the Red Table, Jada Pinkett Smith reveals the impact of the tragic death of her longtime best friend, Tupac Shakur. While Willow Smith shares a painful secret for the first time. Follow Red Table Talk for episodes and updates, only on Facebook Watch.

At that moment, even though Jada and grandmother, Adrienne were shocked and confused by Willow’s admission, Jada had an ‘ah-ha’ moment that helped her understand what exactly Willow was attempting to accomplish with cutting her wrists.
