While people are getting rescued during the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, there are those wishing to take advantage of victims’ helpless positions as well.

HOUSTON, TEXAS — Similar to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Harvey has some people are showing the off-side of humanity.

According to Fox News, authorities have issued a warning after receiving disturbing reports of people impersonating Homeland Security special agents.

The source states that these impersonators are telling residents to evacuate their homes, then they rob the vacant homes. As concerns legitimacy, Fox News reports as follows.

“The city of Houston said people should ask anyone knocking on their doors for official badges and credentials with their name and organization. The city’s statement also noted that, during Harvey relief efforts, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is not conducting immigration enforcement operations in the area.”

In a statement provided to Fox News, the source read the following statements.

“Real HSI officials wear badges that are labeled ‘special agent,’ which members of the public can ask to see and verify. ICE officers with Enforcement and Removal Operations also wear badges labeled with ERO Officer. They also carry credentials with their name and organization. Members of the public who receive such visitors should ask to see these properly labeled badges, and their credentials.”

Take this situation for example…

Here’s one of the local residents protecting one of the stores in his neighborhood from looters.

During the video, you even hear one of the women in the vehicle speak about these fake rescuers and the way they’re robbing people.

The man in the video states that local authorities are now armed with AR-15’s — and instead of focusing their energies on rescuing victims — they’re occupied with protecting residents against people are trying to rob others during these several crises.

Although much of Houston and other affected cities in Texas are coming together in unity, there are still those who just don’t get it — and don’t care to get it.
