One of our favorite couples has decided to call it quits as they have broken up. CNN correspondent Angela Rye confirmed that her relationship has ended with Oscar winner and Chicago native, Common.

Angela And Common Are Done:

It seems like Angela Rye and Common weren’t dating long. They officially announced that they were dating in summer of 2017. Rumors were flying that Rye and Common were an item when they attended the 2017 Creative Arts Emmys red carpet together. Calling him one of her heroes, Rye seemed to confirm that they were together after she dedicated a post to him Instagram after Common won an Emmy.

Super proud of this guy for having a big #EGO, which is not to be confused with a big ego. Here he is giving thanks to the Almighty for his Emmy just like he does for taking every breath, every single day. I’m thankful for his tremendous example of humility, leadership, kindness, and creativity. May we all be inspired to #WORKwoke. ✊🏾💕 #heisSOdope#itsjustthebeginning #TonyhereheCOMES#soblessed Prov. 3:5-6 *

Their relationship seemed perfect as Common has always been “woke” and Rye is a political activist that often speaks out about the injustices of the world. While Common doesn’t say much about his dating life, he seemed to be all about Rye as he spoke about their relationship while visiting socialite Bevy Smith on her SiriusXM radio show, Bevelations.

There’s a definite connection with Angela Rye, the Grammy Aware winner shared. She’s a wonderful woman, I’m dating, I’m happy right now, and she’s an incredible human being.

Well, it seemed like there was trouble in paradise after Rye was a no show at the 2018 Oscars. Common was there and he performed his song, Stand Up for Something from the film Marshall. The song, which he co-wrote with Diane Warren, was nominated for an Academy Award. Many people thought that Rye’s absence was a true indicator that they were no longer together. Then, Rye confirmed that she split with Common as she made a statement to Page Six.

We have and will always be friends, Rye told the New York Post‘s Page Six TV. He is an amazing human being, and I’m a much better person because he’s a part of my life. May we all keep loving and living.

Were The Death Threats Too Much To Bear?

Is it possible that Rye broke up with Common because she felt like her life was in danger. TMZ shared that back in September, Rye was receiving harassing and threatening emails after her relationship with Common became public. According to court docs, Rye shared that she received annoying, harassing and threatening messages on her phone, social media and email. Initially, Rye thought nothing of the messages as they were simply annoying and derogatory. However, Rye began to look at the threats more serious when the sender of the messages became more specific with her threats.  On August 5th, Rye got an email that included the following:

Yr dumb dead ass gonna be found in a river and Let me catch ya ass I’m put the paws on ya.

While the harasser never mentioned Common by name, the threats began around the time of their relationship.

Common Speaks On His Past Relationships:

Common has dated a lot of women in the spotlight. One of his most notable relationships was his 2 year courtship with Erykah Badu. While they seemed perfect for each other, Badu shared that she broke up with Common because of their lack of chemistry. Back in 2015, when Erykah was on The Breakfast Club she shared that she tried to break up with Common several times.

I tried to do the fade out. But I ended up putting myself in a trick bag. But you know, me and Common are still very close too. He’s really sweet. He’s the most compassionate human being I’ve ever met, I think. Very kind…hearted. But it’s all about chemistry, you gotta have chemistry.

While Erykah was ready to move on, maybe Common wasn’t ready to let go. Back in 2014, on the Combat Jack Show, he spoke about his attraction to Erykah and her ability to cast a spell on men.

Yeah, the ‘Badu Box’ is real. Man, it could take you to another universe, Common joked. Nah but seriously… That’s when you meet somebody that’s real special and you’re like, ‘Man, this woman’s got…she got something else, man. It ain’t just sex, it ain’t just the looks. It’s just something that’s kind of like spirit-wise where you’re like, ‘This woman got something else.’ And that’s all it is. But for me, I just appreciated her for all those aspects: her being super-talented, of being real fresh, and being into new s–t I just wasn’t up on. And then at the same token that whole spiritual thing is real. We’re both Pisces.

After Erykah, Common had a serious relationship with tennis star, Serena Williams. It appears that he truly loved both Erykah and Serena as she stated that he would have married them.

It’s like once I’ve experienced that person its like, man, sometimes life goes on, Common said. I can’t say I never would go back but Serena and Erykah were the most serious relationships that I had as an adult and after, it’s one of those things, it’s like, ‘I have to move forward.’ It was real love right there. Both of those women I could’ve married. I was like if I’m not supposed to be there, we’re just supposed to be friends.

Maybe Common needs to stay single for awhile until he finds Mrs. Wright.
