Halle Berry Reveals Diet That Reversed Diabetes, Flattened Her Tummy, And Turned Back The Clock On Aging

Obesity and diabetes are two health conditions that plague the Black community. Adding insult to injury, these two ailments detract from our quality of life. While being overweight hasn’t been an issue for Halle Berry, she has been diabetic for most of her life. Halle has managed to wean herself off insulin by making a change to the way she eats. The Oscar-winning actress swears by the ketogenic diet, but it isn’t for the faint at heart.

On her Jan. 26 #FitnessFriday Instagram post, Halle talked about the importance of what we eat and how it ties into our overall health and fitness regimen. She made it a point to say that when we eat is as critical as our food choices, so if you are used to snacking all day long, that practice will have to end.

“Being diabetic most of my life, I have always had to take food very seriously,” Halle wrote. “So for years, I have been following the keto or ketogenic diet. I hate the word ‘diet’ so while you’ll see the word diet, just know I encourage you to think of it as a lifestyle change NOT A DIET!”

#FitnessFriday Today let’s talk about food. I think the most important part of being healthy and in great shape largely depends on what and when you eat. Being diabetic most of my life, I have always had to take food very seriously. So for years, I have been following the keto or ketogenic diet. I hate the word “diet” so while you’ll see the word diet, just know I encourage you to think of it as a lifestyle change NOT A DIET! Keto is a very low-carb food plan which actually forces your body to burn fat like crazy. I also believe it’s been largely responsible for slowing down my aging process. The keto lifestyle offers so many benefits such as weight loss, (moms that’s how we get rid of our baby bellies), appetite control, more energy and better mental performance. If you’re like me, you can possibly reverse type 2 diabetes, you’ll experience better physical endurance, better skin and also less acne if that’s an issue. And it even helps control migraines! According to an article on Healthline.com, the ketogenic diet is a “very low-carb, high-fat diet” which is effective for losing weight and good for those who have diabetes or epilepsy. Keto has also been said to help treat diseases like cancer and Alzheimer’s. Halle credits the diet with giving her a youthful look as well as burning off her post-baby belly fat. But you have to be willing to give up some of your favorite foods to adopt this lifestyle. The benefits, she says, are well-worth the sacrifice.

It’s #FitnessFriday once again. Today I’m gonna share with you a few exercises that I do that you can do at home. Over the years I have enjoyed learning to box and shadow box as a way of mixing up my workout regime. The first exercise is shadow boxing with a sprawl. It’s good for the upper body, core and lungs. It’s also low impact and calorie burning. The second exercise is shadow boxing with a sit up. This is also a nice way to build upper body strength and the core! And trust me those punches get heavy after a while. If you wanna get extra with it you can add light weights. If you don’t have weights grab water bottles or even cans of soup. It works, I promise you! I do 10 to 20 reps of each one with a minimum of 10 rounds. However you can modify the reps and rounds based on your fitness level. Before you take the leap into the keto lifestyle, see your doctor first and share your goals with this plan to find out what is right for your health condition. You can expect to consume only 20-50 grams of carbohydrates per day and moderate amounts of protein. However, you may look forward to eating fish and seafood, low-carb veggies like broccoli and spinach, cheese, healthy fats like olive oil and avocados, meat and poultry, berries, eggs, nuts and seeds, unsweetened coffee and tea, dark chocolate, and lots of water. Halle says that the keto diet is a win-win lifestyle.

“So today I encourage you to say yes to keto, give it a try… what do you have to lose?!” Halle said.

Again, perception is everything. If the benefits of the keto diet include longevity while looking great, why not give it a shot? Halle might be onto something.
