While Disney may not have the entire cast of Aladdin set in stone, it does have three people down on the ticket. And, Will Smith is one of them.
“AGRABAH” — If you haven’t heard by now, there’s been a lot of controversy surrounding Disney’s remake of Aladdin. In large, spectators didn’t want Hollywood to simply whitewash another ethnical, cultural-based movie.
You know, like making Ryan Reynolds Aladdin or Scarlett Johansson as Jasmine.
According to HighSnobiety, last week, Disney actually announced that it was having trouble casting the movie.

However, of course everyone took to Twitter to voice their opinions with the hashtag #AladdinCasting.
Like, seriously, how is it difficult to cast the movie with so many prominent ethnical actors? Hmmm.
She’s not the people’s choice, but for now, British actor Naomi Scott will be playing Jasmine.
This is Naomi Scott. She is Indian, and white.

Also, Egyptian-Canadian actor Mena Massoud will be playing Aladdin.

Likwise, we all know him as a hometown favorite, Will Smith. He’s playing the part of Genie.

Honestly, I’m excited to see how Will is going to immerse himself in this part. He certainly has the sense of humor to make it happen.
Aside from character roles, another movie issue deals with location of the fictional city, Agrabah. Fans are split with whether it should be based on a South Asian or Middle-Eastern city.
Similarly, Disney is just as split on the decision as well.
Nevertheless, once everything is worked out, it’s probably going to be a great production, and I’m looking forward to seeing it.
