The wife of a limousine driver killed in a fatal accident is speaking out with chilling details about her husband’s concerns prior to his untimely death.
On Saturday, October 6, Scott Lisinicchia – along with twenty others – was killed in an upstate New York crash. Shortly after the accident made headlines, it was confirmed that Lisinicchia did not have the proper license required to drive the limo. In addition to the issue with his license, MSN has reported details about a failed vehicle inspection for the limousine he was driving at the time of the accident.
Now, his wife, Kim Lisinicchia, is opening up about his ongoing concerns prior to his death. According to her, he often complained about safety issues of the vehicle.
During an interview with CBS News, Kim recalled the devastating day she lost her husband and the hours leading up to the accident. Needless to say, the day was one of the worst she’s experienced and the terrible loss has been absolutely devastating. “It has been so difficult because I think about him every day,” she said.
The last time she’d spoken to him was earlier that morning. She admitted that she knew something wasn’t right when she hadn’t heard anything from him after he’d been gone several hours.
“I felt something, and so I called his boss…not the owner, but the son of the limo company. I was like, ‘Did you hear from Scott?’ And he said, ‘I’m glad you called me, ’cause there was an accident.’”
While news reports have suggested that Scott Lisinicchia is partially to blame for the accident, Kim is firing back with a different claim. Despite her husband’s license issue, she claims he was in “excellent health and an excellent driver,” according to EurWeb. Due to her husband’s driving experience, she isn’t so sure he was the cause of the accident. “For over 20-plus years, he drove a tractor-trailer, that’s why I know something was wrong.”
She also detailed the concerns her husband expressed about the limousines before his death. “He did complain. There were a few times where he told me, like I overheard him say, ‘I’m not going to drive this, like this, you need to give me another car,’” Kim said.
“So he knew something was wrong with those vehicles?” CBS News‘ DeMarco Morgan asked.
“Not really… he trusted in what the limo company said, that the cars were alright,” Kim said. “But, please, I have to say, I feel for these victims, I feel for them….I am in no way trying to make it seem like it’s about me or my husband. I just want my husband to be vindicated….I have to stand for him ’cause nobody else will.”
Although the reason for the accident has yet to be confirmed, Kim speculates Prestige Limousine may be partially responsible if something was wrong with the vehicle. Since the vehicle did fail the recent inspection, she has reason to believe they dropped the ball somewhere. Her husband had worked part-time for the company for more than a year and reportedly never had any issues.
She went on to explain why she feels her husband has been wrongfully accused. “I don’t know what that’s about,” she said when asked about her husband’s lack of a proper license. “Because…even if he didn’t have the proper license, this still would’ve happened and I feel like he still would have got blamed.”
A List of Inspection Failures:
If the list of inspection violations is an indication of what may have contributed to the accident, Prestige Limousine might be facing serious issues in the near future. It has been reported that the limousine company has been cited for a staggering 22 violations over the past two years and one of them could definitely cause an accident.
“Prestige Limousines has been cited for 22 violations in the last 24 months. In September, three vehicles failed inspections and were cited for multiple violations – including no or defective emergency exits and malfunctioning brakes.”
Kim was asked how she felt about the violations and she definitely didn’t hold back. “Hearing about the violations with the fleet, Prestige Limousine’s fleet, are you bitter? Are you upset?” Morgan asked.
“Oh yeah, I am. Because they should have been more responsible. You have a company where you have people’s lives….in your hands. That’s unacceptable,” Kim said.
So far, Prestige Limousine has only released a statement addressing Scott Lisinicchia’s death. “We respect the family and their process of grief. Mr. Lisinicchia was a dear friend and dedicated driver and we, too, mourn because he is gone. At this time, we are putting our trust in the investigations in order to answer all the questions of causation and fault.”
No further details about the accident have been released.
