PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA — A stepfather was overwhelmed to the point of tears when he realized something incredibly special about his stepdaughter. Go ahead and grab your tissues.
According to Inside Edition, a Pennsylvania man by the name of Gus Roman received a gift that’ll keep on giving. The source says Roman was unable to hold back tears as his stepdaughter asked him a loving question on Father’s Day.
Reportedly, Roman flipped through a photo book given to him by his 13-year-old stepdaughter, Alexa Figueroa. While reminiscing through and enjoying the collection, he was surprised with a picture note on the last page.
Accordingly, this special note read:
“Hey Dad! 10 years seems long enough don’t ya think?! Wanna adopt me?”
EMOTION OVERLOAD, RIGHT?
The source says Roman immediately burst into tears as he answered, “Of course!”
Alexa’s mother, Mia, says Roman has wanted to adopt his stepdaughter for a long time. However, he wanted it to be on her own time…when she was ready. And now, she’s set.
Reportedly, Alexa’s biological father was killed a week before her first birthday.
And when she was only 2 years old, Roman stepped in and began raising her; so, essentially, he’s all she’s really known.
Roman and Alexa’s mom also had a son, Noah. And eventually, the couple married. However, after several years, 7-year-old Noah wasn’t comfortable with Alexa having a different last name.
So recently, according to the report, he began asking if Alexa could change her last name so they’d all have the same.
NOTE: Mia hadn’t changed her last name either.
You see, Alexa — in the past — worried that changing it would result in losing a piece of her biological dad.
Yet, when her mom suggested hyphenating her last name, she was happy with that idea. Mia tells the source as follows.
“I said no matter what her last name was, Eddie would always be her dad and so would Gus, and explained how lucky she was to have two dads that loved her so much. It was as if a lightbulb went on — she jumped up and said, ‘Well let’s do this then!'”
MAKING THE DAY EVEN MORE SPECIAL
Inside Edition notes this past Father’s Day was the anniversary of Alexa’s biological dad’s death.
“I instantly got emotional and started crying,” Mia said. “We decided since Father’s Day this year fell on the exact date Eddie was killed 12 years ago, we would do it then, to add some happiness to a sad date for us.”
This family is definitely on to something. They’ve turned an annual, sad occasion into one about which to rejoice.
Although not forgotten, Alexa and the family is going through a positive transformation. And it’s clearly life-changing.
