Black Family-Owned Business Celebrates Their Fish Fry Product Success

Posted On : 08/21/2018

Since appearing on ABC’s Shark Tank and Good Morning America, Joe’s Gourmet has gone from strength to strength.

The Atlanta based food company is owned by Joe Dowell, his wife Maranda, and his parents, Joseph and Patricia. The delicious bread mixes are used to bake or fry poultry, fish and vegetables.

The Dowell family’s business boasts two products, the Original Classic fish fry and a newly launched Gluten Free version. Joe’s Gourmet is doing exceedingly well, with the products selling in major U.S. supermarket chains such as Publix and Walmart – to name but a few. In fact, the tasty goods are featured in over 2200 grocery outlets across the country.

The black-owned business managed to achieve this amazing feat in just 3 years.

“Persistence is everything when getting your product in stores,” says Maranda Dowell. “Your passion for your product can be shown through persistence, and that passion will be contagious to your buyer.”

Top Ten In Coatings And Baking Category On Amazon

The business started when Joseph Dowell – a Vietnam War veteran – and his wife Patricia gave their life savings to their son Joseph Dowell III.

It was the youngest Joe’s dream to see Joe’s Gourmet on the shelves of groceries all over America. Since appearing on television, sales for the product increased by 500%. Joe’s Gourmet Fish Fry is currently ranked top ten in the coatings and baking category on Amazon.

“It’s been a real sense of fulfillment that this product launched, hit supermarkets and is a national product. This is my dream, this is my passion project, and it is great to share this experience with my family,” says Joe Dowell III.
