Aiyonna Clarice Barrett, 18, was looking forward to meeting her little ” jellybean”. Barrett’s sister, Brianna Gomez, described her sister as a people person who was intelligent.
She definitely had a glow. She was always a light-spirited person, said Barrett’s sister, Brianna Gomez. She was smart, funny, she was outgoing.
Barrett’s mother, Ebony Gomez, shared that despite Aiyonna’s young age, she was very mature for her age. A senior at Richmond Senior High School in Richmond County of North Carolina, Aiyonna had plans to go to college. Like her smile, she had big dreams.
She was 18, but her maturity was just … she had it set up to where she’d be at her own place. She had a car. She was working. She’d enrolled in community college, Gomez said to WRAL. They took what was supposed to be such a beautiful moment, a blessing to this family, and ripped it apart,” she said. “My daughter didn’t just die. Her life was taken in a brutal way.

Pregnant N.C. Teen Was Found Dead in Her Car:
On Sunday, April 8th, alone and on a dirt road, Aiyonna Barrett was found dead in a car parked in Southern Pines, North Carolina. Barrett was pregnant and her baby was due in May. At nine months pregnant, Barrett was found with a single gunshot wound to her head. Police have not yet specified how she or her unborn child died, and have also not revealed a possible motive. The family of Barrett was heartbroken over her death and they released a statement:
This is devastating news for our family. Aiyonna was a prized member of our family and we were also eagerly awaiting the arrival of her baby girl. We are in shock and are looking forward for more information to be revealed by the law enforcement investigation on how and why this happened. Nothing will justify Aiyonna and her unborn baby girl being taken away from us but we expect justice to be served on the person who took them from us. We fully support law enforcement in their efforts to find out who did this and hope that person is found immediately and arrested. We are aware of numerous people speaking out on social media about their theories but none of those statements should be regarded as being made on behalf of our family. We appreciate everyone’s prayers and support during this difficult time. Otherwise, we will not comment further as this is an ongoing investigation.

Police officers arrested Brian Little, 18, as investigators believe that the teenager is responsible for killing Barrett and her unborn child. Additionally, it is believed that Little is the baby’s father. A motive for the killing has not been established yet. Little, who is being held without bond, has not entered pleas to the two charges he faces. His first court appearance is scheduled for April 24th.
Why did you take my baby? Why was she left alone to die there by herself, Ebony Gomez asked in tears.
Chief Bob Temme, of the Southern Pines Police department, offered the following condolences to the family and friends of Aiyonna Barrett:
On behalf of the Southern Pines Police Department, please accept our deepest sympathy on the unexpected loss of Aiyonna and her child. The Southern Pines Police Department shares the pain and sorrow felt by all. Please draw comfort in knowing that the entire Southern Pines Police Department has pledged an unwavering commitment to the relentless pursuit of justice for all concerned. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you in faith and sympathy.
While the family of Barrett is happy that an arrest has been made in her death, it doesn’t take away the pain. Now, they are left trying to hold on to the happy memories.
She was just a wonderful child. Everyone who met her, she would light up the room when she walked in, said Barrett’s aunt, Operdealla Wilborn. She was just a beautiful girl, beautiful heart and beautiful spirit.
